SWOPP is a range of precision optical probes to help you to make direct on-line measurements of your materials during processes including extruders, reactors and injection moulding machines using, for example, Near Infra-Red (NIR), Raman, FTIR and UV spectroscopy. They have many fields of application, in R & D, production and troubleshooting. Features:
Sapphire is a trigonal crystal of aluminium oxide, an extremely hard, inert and abrasion resistant material with a melting point of about 2,040°C (3,700°F), and an optical transmission range from 0.17 to 5.5 microns. It has a Young's Modulus of around 330 GPa, and a shear modulus of circa 150 GPa. SWOPP Sapphire Window Optical Process Probes are available in a variety of configurations, and we are happy to provide modifications to suit your application. SWOPP01, above, is designed to fit a standard “ Dynisco ” transducer port on an extruder or injection moulder, and will accept the ¼” (6.35mm) diameter ferrule of a fibre optic probe, for example those supplied by Ocean Optics Inc. The ferrule of the probe is secured using a grub screw, thus allowing the SWOPP01 probe to be left in position whilst the fibre optic probe is removed; this allows one set of your optical analytical instruments to be used in more than one location, and allows the process to continue undisturbed, without the need to stop and clean down to remove the probe. This particular probe has a 75mm (3”) length, but we can provide others to order. SWOPP probes are available also with optical fibres fitted, and can be configured for transmission or reflectance. Additionally, the probes may be optionally fitted with a standard SMA 905 connector for easy connection and disconnection, or may be fitted with a trailing fibre-optic tail of a length specified by you in order to minimise signal loss. Additionally, we are happy to consider designs with different geometries or materials to suit your specific applications. Just send us your requirements!
