Special Instrument Designed and Built for DSTL
Celsum Technologies Ltd has successfully designed, built and delivered to budget and to a tight timescale a special instrument for the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (DSTL), an agency of the UK Ministry of Defence. Construction of the robust instrument involved designing a bespoke framework of mild steel tubing with a ventilated electrical cabinet holding electromechanical switchgear and low-voltage logic circuitry, laser-cut and precision welded stainless steel, and was designed to allow easy transport using a fork-lift truck.

The HGC Humidity Generator and Controller is a unique instrument that actually measures the humidity with a sensor located near to the sample, and then controls the humidity to the desired value, up to 85% RH. Celsum Technologies has introduced the new version of the CTPT Two-Point Workability Tester for fresh cement and concrete and similar materials. The CTPT allows the force needed to agitate the sample over a range of speeds to be measured. From these data and with calibration, a plot of force against speed may be constructed. The slope of the resulting graph gives a measure of the viscosity or plasticity of the specimen, and the intercept with the force axis the yield or slump characteristics. The instrument may be operated manually or under computer control, with speed control allowing constant speed, speed ramps, or a "staircase" speed program. The machine is fitted with interlocked guards, and is supplied complete with control computer and software.

Celsum Technologies is offering state-of-the-art serial radio modems, which will allow communication over an RS232, RS422 or RS485 serial link at distances of 3 kilometres or more. The radio modems may be used licence free at broadcast power outputs of up to 0.5 Watt (in the UK), and may be used at greater distances by obtaining a licence. In permitting communications on serial links (at data transfer rates up to 19,200 baud), the radio modems complement Celsum Technologies' range of strain gauge conditioning and process control instrumentation.

Digital & Analogue Capability for Radio Telemetry System

The TIO is a high performance, very flexible telemetry instrument that provides digital and analogue IO to a radio telemetry system. The nature and combination of the IO signals is determined by a range of plug-in modules, so the user can configure the instrument to suit their application. The TIO can be driven or read from a computer connected to a TCM as well as allowing other Telemetry devices to modify the IO parameters; the TIO has the capability of requesting data from other devices and modifying its outputs accordingly.

Celsum Supplies Heart Of New Supermaket Scales


Celsum Technologies is providing the New Generation DSC Digital Strain Card to connect a load cell to a computer in novel, networked, coin-operated weighing scales, the VideoMedia® from Avisis PLC, which are appearing in major supermarkets. The on-board computer allows live promotional messages to be played whilst the scale is not in use. The DSC provides a very cost effective way of providing accurate digital data from a strain gauge device to a computer system via a serial (com) port without the need for expensive analogue-to-digital cards. The DSC is fully programmable, may be configured to output data in engineering units compensated for temperature drift and non-linearity, and has recently been enhanced with the launch of the New Generation DSC and Dcell Strain Puck.
